Jake used public records and GIS to better understand the history of this neglected lot as well as the background of its proprietor.

Jake and Willamette Week colleague Lee Vankipuram collected first hand experiences from building residents and bystanders as well as official statements from the Portland Fire Department to shed light on a sudden building fire in the Goose Hollow neighborhood of Portland.

As one of the newest Portland Safe Rest Villages opens its doors Jake takes time to speak with the city and multiple neighborhood associations to see what is stalling the other planned villages.

For this story Jake spoke with the founders and directors of a local non-profit focused on helping young adults struggling with a lack of housing, food insecurity and drug addiction.

For this story Jake explained the effects of an Oregon ballot measure that legalized psilocybin therapy by interviewing local organizations that advocate for psilocybin therapy and are seeking to gain licensure to conduct psilocybin therapy in the Eugene area.

This piece of enterprise journalism told the stories of University of Oregon Freshman that were negatively affected by a lack of housing on the UO campus due to the university over enrolling their 2022-2023 freshman class. 

Jake worked closely with other senior members of the Daily Emerald news desk to report on over policing of University of Oregon students. 

During an internship at the Chronicle in Accra, Ghana, Jake reported on the ongoing trial of two men who killed a member of parliament.

While at Eugene Weekly, Jake took the opportunity to do arts and culture reporting and gain photography experience by reviewing and photographing the recent Jackson Browne concert in Eugene, Oregon.

As a breaking news story, Jake reported on an impromptu candle light vigil in honor of the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, hosted by a University of Oregon student organization.

With other senior members of the Daily Emerald news desk, Jake conducted live reporting on the 2022 Oregon state elections, including the tightly contested Oregon Governors race.

Working with another Eugene Weekly intern, Jake interviewed subjects and photographed the "Save the Children" protest in Eugene, Oregon.

As the beat reporter covering the Associate Students of the University of Oregon, Jake published this accountability piece on how the governing body planned to spend UO student money.
